    I haven't watched it yet but may do this weekend. I've very little faith/expectations for when these old series get another movie released years and years later. Its always the studios flogging a dead horse.. indiana jones etc etc I will say once I heard the sax playing at aorund the 6.30 markI was like... they didn't??? ..and they did.. Tim Cappello on sax... LOVE THAT SHIT!!! Hard to not always have the image of him oiled up to all hell ripped shreads in the lost boys... I STILL BELIIIEVVE 😎

    This was a perfect streaming release for me. I have a much lower threshold for streaming a movie than actually going to a theater to see a movie. To see a movie in a theater, I need to not want to wait at all to see it -- Avenger's Endgame, etc. To watch a movie on streaming? It just has to look entertaining/interesting and I'll get around to it. This wasn't something I'd ever have seen in the theater (although I did see the first three in the theater, including the first when I was 6 and my dad took me), but when I had family over on the 4th and we wanted something to watch while we waited for it to get dark? Immediately clicked on this when I saw it had been released. Enjoyed it. I was very happy they didn't turn Axl into some dope or constantly make fun of his age, he was pretty much what you'd expect an older Axl to be. Still a loudmouth, a little less hotheaded but still getting himself into endless trouble, but overall competent with good instincts.

    I grew up watching the 20th anniversary dvd of this and still own to this day. Just watched it recently again and practically quote the entire movie everytime. Such a classic but I definitely wish I could’ve been there when it released in theaters so I would’ve been alone in crying over Optimus 🥲

    As a fan of the first two I thought it was enjoyable and very fun with no dumb agenda and making Axel the incompetent hero like current Hollywood is obsessed with. Its not my favorite, but I do appreciate it as a solid sequel that respects the franchise and gives the characters we love a nice return to the screen like we always wanted.

    You’re spot on about the middle act. Axel and his daughter had zero chemistry or energy together so when the movie turns it’s focus to their relationship it’s at its weakest. Which is a shame, because I quite enjoyed everything else.

    LOVED it! The only thing that I didn't like was the actress playing Axel's daughter; Taylour Paige. I'm sorry but she is just a bad actress. Very stiff and awkward. Otherwize the music was AMAZING! I have missed catchy tunes in today's movies so much! The chemistry between the original actors was so good and fun to see :)

    Apparently it got a limited release in American cinemas. Netflix have an allergy to doing wide releases. Glass Onion made loads on its limited release but it didn't inspire NF to capitalise on that. Its annoying as the other Jerry Bruckheimer produced legacy sequel buddy buddy cop movie released this Summer (Bad Boys 4) went to cinemas and did good money.

    It was obvious they did all they could to write around the age of Murphy and the others. Most if not all the action takes place during chases or helicopter stunts, that in itself would not ruin the movie for me, but there is also how tired Axel looks and feels epitomised by the scene in the hotel where he starts to fast talk the clerk then stops and says he's to old for that and just asks for a room. It's the age old question, at what point do we no longer want to see our childhood heros on screen? At what age does it start to tarnish our memory of them? It happened with Indiana Jones and in some ways Axel F is similar. The deadbeat dad and husband angle that has become so old and worn out now in Hollywood, but in this case it makes no sense. This is Axel Foley, the man who travelled to Beverley Hills in the first movie when his childhood friend gets shot. Who travels to Beverley Hills when another friend gets shot. Who travels to Beverley Hills when his mentor gets shot ... and yet this man with such loyalty to his friends and such a strong moral compass abandons his wife and daughter?! Also the lack of Taggart and Rosewood in this movie hurts it somewhat, especially as Taggart seems to have changed totally. Not only does he seem so old he should be in a retirement home rather than Chief of Police, but he abandons Axel when asked for help, and benches Bobby for no good reason, especially when you consider the crap he pulled in previous movies with Axel! Rosewood is reduced to a few short minutes on screen and most of those are just moments or words ripped from previous movies so we get the member berries feels. The estranged daughter really drags the movie down as she takes up most of her screen time showing she 'needs no man' in her life to be successful and constantly putting her father down for not being there. Jeffrey being Deputy Chief of police in Detroit is ludicrous when you consider how he was in the previous movies. He was the comedy side kick, the idiot who can't do anything right, and yet he makes deputy chief?! In Axel F he is relegated to doing what Iceman did for Maverick in Top Gun: Maverick, basically covering for Axel's screw ups and keeping him in a job. There were so many ways this could of gone, some of which were tried in the cancelled tv show. Having Axel's son or daughter as the lead and as a cop with him mentoring them, or helping them out on a case would of worked much better and would have made the action sequences more animated as the leads would have been younger and fitter. All in all the spark has gone from Axel in this movie and he just sleep walks through it hitting the notes he is directed to, but this is not the Axel we remember.

      Or maybe they just didn't think this movie is very good and you're predisposed to like it because its nostalgically cashing in on something you used to like? I hardly think the 4th Beverly Hills Cop getting mixed reviews is comparable to "burning humanity one step at a time", you sound ludicrous.

    This movie did one thing very right and that is the look of LA. A lot of movies in the 80s/90s gave LA/California this orange sundrenched hue whereas modern films just make the sky a normal blue.

      I agree. That’s so overdone anymore. Too bad it was filmed in Georgia with the exception of a few exterior shots. I miss when actors actually shot scenes on location.

  • @thefanwithoutaface8105
    @thefanwithoutaface8105 12 часов назад

    Also felt the movie could've done a bit more with the idea the villain established, namely that despite being a police officer putting their lives on the line time and time again, their pay is shit, their pension ain't great and they have to deal with criticism constantly. Could've been interesting to explore especially with Axel seemingly living the same relatively crappy life despite all his prior adventures.

    The daughter actress was terrible. Everyone else was ok. It needed more of what you said, over-the-top improvising that Axel Foley is known for! And could have been edited down a bit too. Not a bad sequel.

  • @thefanwithoutaface8105
    @thefanwithoutaface8105 12 часов назад

    Movie wasn't bad and I'm glad the movie didn't make Axel look like an incompetent idiot whose daughter has to show him up over and over again. That sad it was kind of a bummer Billy isn't in the movie that much while Taggert is shown as more antagonistic akin to how he was in the first film. Also kind of sad to see the trio of main heroes so much older and less energetic compared to the first two films.

  • @FaydOgolon

  • @seangalvin4582
    @seangalvin4582 12 часов назад

    I only watched a bit, but it was guilty of a legacy sequel trope often seen: when characters mythologize the prior movies. For instance: when the guy he was working with at the Hockey Game verbalized his excitement for being in a chase w/ "Thee Axel Foley". Basically stating how cool it was to be in a Beverly Hills Cop movie after watching them for all these years. He practically started humming the theme music. Acting as if the characters in the movies whole life was encompassed in the prior movies and everyone witnessed them and thinks about them frequently. If that makes sense.

    • @pts5217
      @pts5217 11 часов назад

      Makes sense. I agree. I also think many of the actors were too aware of them being in a comedy and tried too hard to be big and funny. The original was great in part bc everyone played it straight and let Eddie cool

    I personally had a blast with it. My only complaint is that there wasn’t enough of Rosewood. And maybe the fact Taggart was back to being sorta antagonistic towards Axel. Based on what I can see though, this is like a direct sequel to the first two, as it practically ignores the third film haha. I don’t think that film is that bad though, but it definitely is the worst. Lorne Balfe encapsulated Harold Faltermeyer’s themes like it was nothing and I was amazed to hear it all again. Jerry Bruckheimer keeps it going with all the legacy sequels, both Bad Boys, this, and of course, Top Gun: Maverick. I just wish they’d released this in theaters, but oh well.
